401k Calculator

Who runs this site, how the figures are checked, how it is funded, and what it will not do.

2026 figures from IRS Notice 2025-67 (IR-2025-111)

This site publishes 401(k) calculators and nothing else. One person runs it. It's small and it'll stay small, because a handful of tools checked line by line against the IRS notice they cite beat a few hundred that were never checked at all.

Nobody with a credential checks these pages

There's no CFP®, no CPA and no editorial board behind this site. A reviewer's name would be the easiest thing on this page to fake and the worst thing to be caught faking, so it isn't here, and neither is an anonymous "editorial team" standing between you and the IRS documents.

What's here instead is a chain you can follow yourself. Every IRS figure on the site sits in one data file, limits.json, next to the notice or revenue procedure it came from and a link to that document. The build refuses to compile while any figure in that file lacks a recorded source, and a calculator whose data hasn't been verified switches itself off and says so on the page. None of that is a promise. It's a check that runs every time the site is built.

Every formula is on the methodology page, approximations marked.

So the guarantee is narrow and real: the inputs match the IRS documents they cite, and you can confirm that yourself in about five minutes using the source link printed at the foot of any page.

It's a weaker guarantee than a named professional gives. A planner who has read a thousand plan documents, and who knows when you intend to claim Social Security, catches what source-checking can't, like a formula that's arithmetically right and conceptually wrong for your case, or an assumption that quietly fails for someone in your plan. That layer doesn't exist here. Use the tools to see the shape of a decision, then take anything you mean to act on to your plan administrator or a tax professional who knows your facts.

Advertising pays for the site, and nothing else does

Display advertising is the only income. There are no affiliate links to brokerages, no referral fees for sending you to an adviser, and no paid placements, and if that changes the change gets disclosed here and on the affected pages before it goes live. The editorial policy writes that down as a rule, along with how a correction gets made and dated once one is needed. The IRS doesn't care how a calculator is funded, but you should, because an affiliate link earns more when you pick one broker over another and an ad doesn't.

Providers get named where naming one helps you, never for payment.

Not an adviser, and not the IRS

This site isn't a registered investment adviser, a broker-dealer, a CPA firm or a law firm. Nothing here is advice. Investment, tax and legal advice all need someone licensed to give them, and running a calculator on this site creates no relationship of any kind.

It isn't affiliated with the IRS, the Social Security Administration or the Department of Labor either. Their publications are cited on every page that uses one of their figures, and nobody here speaks for them.

The build fails before an unsourced figure can reach a page

Every check that can stop a build is listed on the methodology page. The one that matters most: no IRS figure reaches a page until the block it sits in records the date it was read against the primary source, and who read it. There is one permitted answer to who. It is the one person who runs this site. The build keeps a list of the names allowed to sign a figure off, that list has a single entry, and everything else refuses to compile, including a sentence describing the check, which reads like a process and names nobody.

So the record attached to every IRS figure here says the same narrow thing, and it is worth reading literally: checked against the primary source on this date, by the one person who runs the site. That is not a second opinion, an editorial review or a sign-off. It is a date. It is also an admission of who was doing the looking, and the reason for putting it that flatly is that every softer wording sounds better than the truth.

Until 11 September 2026 that check ran on the year as a whole and nowhere else. Seven blocks inside it were marked verified while recording nothing at all about who had checked them or when: the 457(b) and 403(b) rules, the Social Security taxation thresholds, both sets of IRA phase-out ranges, the standard deduction and the payroll tax rates. The paragraph you are reading said otherwise, which made it the kind of claim this site exists to be the opposite of. The build now walks every block however deep it sits, and refuses the lot if one of them cannot say when it was last read. You can check that yourself. The file is limits.json, the fields are _verified_by and _verified_on, and the methodology page lists every figure they cover.
